Ingredients Needed:
Onion Powder
Garlic Powder
Tomato Powder. I purchase this through Amazon. It adds a great tomato flavor to the seasoning, and is the secret ingredient to this recipe.
Paprika
Sugar
Dried Basil
Salt
Arrowroot Powder
Water
Tomato Sauce
Equipment Needed:
Bowl
Measuring spoons
Whisk
Measuring Cup
Skillet
Substitutions:
Paprika. For this particular recipe, I use regular Paprika. If you wanted to add a touch of smokiness, or some heat, you could substitute smoked or hot paprika.
Sugar. If you were looking to omit the sugar completely, a sugar substitute such as honey or cane sugar may work, although I have not tried it for this recipe.
Arrowroot Powder. This is used as a thickener and is also gluten-free. Using cornstarch, all-purpose flour, or rice flour would be alternatives.
Tomato Sauce. If you happen to grow your own tomatoes, homemade sauce would be a great substitution.
Additional Flavors. Depending on your taste buds, adding red pepper flakes, black pepper, cayenne pepper, or italian herbs would also give extra flavor.
Garlic. I am a huge garlic fan. Adding fresh garlic to the pan would be a great way to add extra flavor.
Pro Tips:
This recipe is so delicious. Instead of measuring out a single meals worth, I recommend making a bigger batch!
Why You’ll Love this McCormick Spaghetti Seasoning Copycat Recipe
As a mom, I am always thinking of healthy and flavorful meals that the whole family can enjoy. On busy weeknights, there are often times I only have 20-30 minutes to prepare a meal. Spaghetti is such a quick meal, but I don’t really want to use the packaged seasonings with the extra preservatives. Homemade spaghetti seasoning has a much fresher taste, bold flavor, and can be made ahead of time! An added bonus, most of these simple ingredients will already be in your pantry. No special grocery stops and spending lots of money on unique pantry items. Whenever I make my own seasoning mixes at home, I always feel like I appreciate the meal just a little more, knowing I took the simple steps to make the best seasoning.
How to Make the Best McCormick Spaghetti Seasoning Copycat Recipe
This easy recipe comes together so quickly! Before I even get started mixing up a small batch, I take out all the ingredients and place them on the counter. Start by taking out a small bowl and a whisk. To the bowl, you will add all of the dry seasonings together. Whisk until incorporated. That’s it. You’re done. I told you it was easy.
Now that you have the seasoning ready, start by heating your medium saucepan over medium-low heat. If you plan on adding ground meat to your sauce, cook the meat all the way through. For this recipe, I usually cook a pound of ground beef.
If you are skipping this step, once the skillet is warm, add one 15oz can of tomato sauce to the skillet. Add the seasoning in and whisk until combined. Last, add one-half cup of water, or your desired amount, until the sauce has the desired consistency you want.

This homemade spaghetti sauce mix recipe would also taste great in a homemade lasagna! If you aren’t in the mood for pasta dishes, throw some garlic bread in the oven and top it with the spaghetti meat sauce.
How to Store
If you plan on making a larger quantity of seasoning, store it in an airtight container, glass jar, or ziploc bag and place it in the pantry or a dry place. Additionally, this container could always be placed in the freezer to extend the shelf life even longer. For reference, for large batches made, for every pound of ground meat cooked, I will add 35g of dry seasoning. This is equivalent to the amount in a store package from your local grocery store.
